Since Autumn 2015, the FBCCI 24 have been organising monthly networking evenings in the convivial surroundings of the “QG”, a bar in the heart of the old city of Périgueux, the county town ( Préfecture ) of the Dordogne.
These evenings have proved popular and successful, but realising the Dordogne to be a very large Department, with many of the Franco-British community living further than striking distance from Périgueux, the Dordogne Liaison Committee, FBCCI 24, took the decision to hold certain of these gatherings in towns in the more remote areas.
The first such event was held on the evening of Thursday 5th October, 2017 in the Bastide town of Eymet, very much south of the department, which is well known to the British.
( Eymet even has its own cricket club. )
One of our committee members, Eric ENGELS, an insurance broker from the Eymet area, took charge of the organisation and it was with great pleasure that we experienced times during the evening when a “House Full” notice would have been justified.
The meeting was held in the Café de Paris in central Eymet, and the welcome and cooperation received from the landlord was exceptional.
The “Locals”, rather than objecting to an invasion of their “fief” , were welcoming and showed a very real interest in the Chamber.
During the evening, information regarding the FBCCI , both verbal and in the form of brochures, was distributed and at least one new member signed up on the spot !
Following an address in which details of future events were given, a business card draw took place , the winner being M Cédric CLARISSOU from AXA.
The success of this event more than justifies the decision to take the Chamber to the local communities, and our thanks go out to Eric ENGELS for all his efforts.
The next similar event will be held at the “Entente Cordiale” in Abjat-sur-Bandiat, in the very north of the department on 14th November, 2017.
