The British Embassy is certainly not an establishment that is alien to sport; the two have a long standing affiliation and the Embassy garden even boasts its very own grass tennis court, which has, in the past, played host to Rentrée Reception professional tennis matches. However this year, rugby, which like tennis is considered a quintessentially British game, was the theme of the evening marking one year to go for the 2015 Rugby World Cup. To create an active ambiance, Studio Harcourt provided a stunning selection of black and white photographs containing some of rugby’s most illustrious names: Sebastien Chabal, Jonny Wilkinson, and Richie McCaw to name but a few.
Guests were also treated to a beautifully assembled montage of historic Rugby World Cup moments, provided by SPORTFIVE, which only heightened the sense of excitement for the impending sporting event of 2015. A delicious selection of buffet foods was provided by Marks & Spencer’s which made for the perfect accompaniment to the flowing champagne.
Sir Peter Ricketts, the English ambassador to France, kicked off the speeches with a warm welcome which was resonated by Bob Lewis, President of the FBCCI. Our sponsors, Deloitte, Marks & Spencer, Visit England, and SPORTFIVE also gave a short welcome before the eagerly anticipated prize draw. The lucky winners were treated to two return flights to England, an England 15 jersey signed by the entire team, a variety of polo rugby tops, and, finally, a €300 M&S voucher.
Great weather and fantastic company made for a truly memorable Rentrée Reception and we would be delighted to welcome back next year all our guests, and any who missed out on this year’s success.
