“Rugby is a good occasion for keeping thirty bullies far from the centre of the city.” – Oscar Wilde
The British Embassy is certainly not an establishment that is alien to sport; it has a long standing affiliation with it and even boasts its very own grass tennis court, which has, in the past, played host to Rentrée Reception professional tennis matches. However this year, the upcoming rugby World Cup was the theme of the evening. To create this active ambience Harcourt provided a stunning selection of black white photographs containing some of rugby’s most illustrious names.
Oriel Petry, director of UK Trade and Investment, kicked off the speeches with a warm welcome to the numerous guests which was further resonated by Bob Lewis, President of the FBCCI. Jean-Pierre Farandou of Keolis and Alain Pons of Deloitte also gave a short welcome before the eagerly anticipated prize draw. The lucky winner, Catherine Renard of Studio Harcourt, was treated to two return flights to England with Flybe.
Guests were also entertained by Rémy Bonfils of Stade Français. The crowd became divided as a vote was held to discover who would be the winner of the World Cup which only heightened the sense of excitement for the impending sporting event of 2015. A delicious selection of quintessentially English buffet food was provided by Marks & Spencer which provided the perfect accompaniment for the ever-flowing Prosecco.
This event would not have been a success without the generous support of our sponsors; Deloitte, Keolis and Marks and Spencer, provided to us throughout. The pleasant weather and fantastic company made for a truly memorable Rentrée Reception and we would be delighted to welcome all our guests, and any who missed out, back again next year.
