If the United Kingdom withdraws from the EU without an agreement on January 1, 2021, French insurers will lose the European passport allowing them to do business in the United Kingdom.

Presently, the European passport gives an insurer established in an EU country the possibility of insuring risks freely within all EU countries, including until recently the United Kingdom.

The French Insurance Code states that the insured risk is located in the country where the policyholder has his habitual residence. As a result, under a contract taken out by an individual or company residing in the United Kingdom, a French (or European) insurer will no longer be able to cover such a risk.

In view of this situation, Henner is at your disposal to discuss the various solutions to the problems posed by Brexit for your personal insurance operations between France and the United Kingdom.
