The morning of Wednesday 21st March 2018 saw our Business Breakfast held in association with Strego and MHA MacIntyre Hudson. The breakfast was themed around a comparison between the different fiscal and state aid scheme schemes available for research and innovation in France and in the UK.
The breakfast began with welcoming words from both Chamber President Olivier Campenon and Strego Director Nigel Bath, before handing over to guest speakers for the morning Tom Byng and Patrice Gaffié.
Tom Byng, R&D Tax Partner at MHA MacIntyre Hudson, and Patrice Gaffié, Innovation Finance Consultant at Ombello, presented the different frameworks that govern the financing of R&D and innovation in both France and the UK.
Key topics of the presentations included an overview of the types of projects that could qualify for state aid in France and the UK, analysis of the different types of direct and fiscal aid available in the two countries and a discussion of the benefits that government aid can bring. Both Patrice and Tom then concluded with worked numerical examples, highlighting the differences that government funding can have on the profitability of firms carrying out qualifying projects.
We would like to thank Nigel Bath and his team at Strego, guest speakers Tom Byng and Patrice Gaffié and all those present for helping to make the event such a success.
