On the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September 2022, the Prince of Wales accedes to the throne. The coronation of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6 May 2023. The ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and will reflect the current role of the monarch, looking to the future but rooted in tradition. Throughout the Coronation weekend, 6-8 May, there will be many opportunities for people to come together to celebrate this historic event. On Sunday 7 May 2023, a Coronation Concert will be held and broadcast live from Windsor Castle by the BBC. On the same day, people in the UK are invited to celebrate with neighbours and friends at Coronation Big Lunches across the country. On Monday 8 May 2023, the public is invited to take part in The Big Help Out, which encourages everyone to get involved in voluntary work.
