In a statement released on 15 July, New Covent Garden Market (NCGM), the UK’s leading wholesale market for fruit, vegetables and horticultural products, based in London, announced that it had exceeded £1 billion (€1.18 billion) in annual turnover for the first time during the 2025–2026 financial year. This represents a 15.5% increase compared with the £934 million (€1.09 billion) recorded in 2024–2025.
By comparison, the fruit and vegetable sector at France’s Rungis International Market generated €4.49 billion in sales in 2025.
New Covent Garden Market, home to 130 businesses, also reported a slight increase in occupancy, reaching 96% in 2025–2026, up from 91% in 2024–2025. This improvement was driven by the fruit and vegetable market, where occupancy rose to 97% (from 90% the previous year), while the Flower Market remained fully occupied (100%) despite the ongoing redevelopment of the site.
“Reaching this turnover milestone is a testament to the strength and reputation of the market, as well as to the people who make it what it is,” said Wanda Goldwag OBE, Chair of the Covent Garden Market Authority.
Supplying more than 40% of London’s restaurants, hotels and catering businesses, New Covent Garden Market is currently undergoing a major redevelopment programme, with completion scheduled for 2027.
